I celebrated a birthday yesterday.

It’s crazy how fast time can fly. I feel like it was just yesterday when I was pub crawling around downtown San Diego for my 30th birthday. Now I’m just one year away from the big 4-0. Nuts!

In between birthdays I set a goal to read 100 books. This past year was the closest I’ve gotten, with a total of 83 read cover to cover. Most were very good. Some were so-so. And a handful were excellent.

What makes a book excellent is not only the content, but the writing. I have a thing for wordsmiths. And today’s guest on The SC Sessions is just that.

But before we get to him, here are my favorite 5 books of Year 38, in no particular order. You’ll also find links to my interviews with the authors.

No Matter What by Lisa Nichols

The Universe Has Your Back by Gabby Bernstein

Cured by Nature by Tara Mackey

True to Your Core by Bonnie Kelly

How to Live a Good Life by Jonathan Fields

That last title, How to Live a Good Life, was by far the best writing I encountered all year. Jonathan Fields is a master craftsman of words. His writing flows like poetry, elegantly guiding you from one life-shifting takeaway to the next.

His book is what I call a Code Yellow, because it was full of yellow hi-lighter by the time I was done with it. Tons of great stuff in there!
