I get a kick out of seeing my friends on TV.
Way back in 2008, when I was making “underground” health videos on YouTube, the mainstream media steered clear of anything outside of the food pyramid.
Now I can turn on the tube and see my pals schooling Dr. Oz on fats and cholesterol, talking GMOs on The Doctors, and pitching their latest books on Good Morning America.
We’ve come a long way in a very short time, thanks in part to a more open-minded mainstream media willing to give air time to less “conventional” messages that may rub their sponsors the wrong way.
Then again, maybe not…
The networks may be willing to apprise their viewers of the potential problems with gluten, genetically modified foods, and maybe even the toxins in your shampoo.
But when it comes to antidepressants, they avert their eyes and look away. There’s too much to lose.
And that’s exactly why, despite a groundbreaking book due to hit shelves next week, you won’t be seeing Dr. Kelly Brogan on your television anytime soon.
She’s been blacklisted.
For telling the truth.
For disclosing what the scientific literature REALLY says about antidepressants.
For giving substance to the well-hushed argument that depression is NOT caused by a chemical imbalance but something else altogether.
In this week’s episode of The Sessions, Dr. Brogan, a practicing psychiatrist and author of A Mind of Your Own, reveals what the pharmaceutical companies don’t want you to know and what the mainstream media is apparently too intimidated to tell you.

Excellent program! Dr. Brogan is brilliant. What I would like to hear from your next interview with Dr. Brogan and others is detailed information about how certain foods and beverages impact these diseases and “wonderful” alternative recommendations. Instead of referring to scary “restricted diets,” simply flip that notion to recommend everyday cuisine that is fulfilling and joyful. It does exist.
It seems that so many people suffering from chronic and diet-related diseases need real prescriptions for real, safe and delicious food. But they need details and inspiration, not just restrictions or a list. I recommend that you ask organic farmers and chefs that support sustainable organic food sourcing to collaborate with you on your important work. Many thanks.
Fantastic, thanks Sean
Thanks for a brilliant interview with a brilliant person. You re really making a difference to the world.
Impressive! Good interview. Great information.
Thank you Sean. As always, excellent and very informative. It is too bad that you weren’t able to cover all of your notes. Maybe a part two is in order 😉 I find it amazing that you are able to cover the ground you are able to cover with each guest with the accuracy and excellence and attention to detail that you do week after week after week; Not just in the interview but then with the tangential information along with it (ie links to other podcasts etc). It is like you are doing a term paper EVERY WEEK (A grade work). Anyway, thanks again!
Haha! That’s exactly the mindset I’m in when I prep for an interview — like I’m getting ready for a term paper or final exam. It’s fun!
Thanks so much for listening!!

Thanks Sean for bringing Dr. Brogan’s new book to my attention. I really enjoyed the interview you completed with her on multiple levels. As a formerly licensed, masters level psychotherapist, I found that there was a great deal of the information on SSRIs. As a non prescribing provider I found this data to be true in witnessing my patients suffer. Further, in working outpatient clinics where the psychiatrist on staff is “god” and has the ability to disregard anything a lowly licensed psychotherapist says, it was reaffirming to know that my knowledge in observation and talk therapy is accurate before “science” is ready to share.
Though, there was a tidbit in the interview I found annoying from Dr. Brogan. This is from her comment about what other alternatives are there to psychiatry and is sounded as if she immediately dismissed psychotherapy. What a shame!!!! Then she goes on to later cite that most depression clears up within 6 months without medication. This is precisely when a psychotherapist can be in the picture to assist patients in developing coping skills, healthy eating habits, and healthy behavioral practice all the while working to prevent and monitor suicidal behaviors. Additionally, the therapist can also be working with the family system to provide additional supportive behaviors to encourage better eating and health within the family circle. Perhaps you could influence Dr. Brogan to reconsider her stance on mental health therapists? In particular, licensed marital and family therapists who take a unique approach to psychotherapy.
a licensed mental health therapist is a bit of an oxymoron is it not ?
Brilliant Kelly Brogan. When all is said and done the problem is that we have all bought into the false paradigms and given over our own powers to the corporatocracy and other control freaks we call our government. Well past time for all of us to take back our own “Inner Powers” and take full responsibility of our own well being in every way, including our health in every aspect. We all live in many illusions !.
Thanks Sean, I’m learning so much from these interviews, I’m very grateful. It would be great if you sold books on your website. Just a thought. Thanks for being so inspiring and being so dedicated to your passion.
Did KB mean to say ‘one thousandth of a milligram per month ‘ or did she mean ‘one ten thousandth of a gram per month’ ?
Amazing. Favourite new podcast so far.
Loved this interview. I especially loved when she said that people generally will only change their mind through their own experience. YES. It is so frustrating to tell people facts, and even personal experience, only to have them shrug and think it’s all made up, and that doctors and medicine are the be all and end all. Seriously, if anything can drive a person to depression or craziness (other than our current medical system and pharmaceuticals…) it’s that you can tell people the truth and they choose not only to disregard it, but to not even consider researching it. People are Dying, and nobody even wants to do a modicum of research into what may be causing it, they’d prefer to just believe that a pill will cure it. That one sentence she said about personal experience really resonated with me, and I appreciate her saying it–it lets me know that I’m not the only one who feels like they’re talking to a wall sometimes. 😉 Great interview.
[…] Kelly Brogan, a holistic psychiatrist, wrote a book called A Mind of Your Own – the Truth About Depression and How Women Can Heal Their Bodies to Reclaim Their Lives, which I can’t recommend enough. Her website is a treasure trove of help for healing yourself. She even includes a practitioner referral section if you decide to find a different doc. Hear Dr. Brogan talk about her book here. […]
She’s hot.
