When you have a sec, type relentless.com into your web browser.

Let me tell you what you’ll find…

You’ll be immediately redirected to the Amazon website.

Why? Well, back when he was brainstorming names for his company, Jeff Bezos took a liking to the word relentless.

To him, it was the perfect metaphor for the kind of indefatigable mindset and intense customer-centric focus required to build one of the world’s most successful businesses.

The URL was purchased and is still owned by the company. But since Bezos’s friends thought “Relentless” felt a bit sinister, they rolled with Amazon instead.

Sinister as the word may have seemed, relentlessness was the secret sauce that took Amazon from an idea in someone’s head to a $1.27T company that dominates e-commerce.

Even people who detest Jeff Bezos can’t stop using his website. I always say, if you think Jeff Bezos has too much money, hey, stop giving it to him.

But they can’t and they won’t, simply because of the company’s relentless focus on the customer, its ability to pioneer innovative solutions, and a knack for weathering storms and surmounting crises.

Amazon’s success didn’t happen by accident; it was willed into existence by a mentality that trickled down from the top. From the mind of the one who envisioned it.

Without a relentless state of mind, the vision flatlines. Like Les Brown once said, the lion’s share of our ideas and dreams are taken with us to the grave. Usually because we’re too petrified about being on the receiving end of criticism. Unsure of our capacity to withstand the crises. And excessively focused on ourselves instead of the customer.

When you think of what it will take to bring your vision to life, think Amazon. Have a healthy respect and expectation for the obstacles and crises that are certain to appear along your path. Prioritize those who will benefit from your vision. Wake up every morning with the Bezosian mindset required to turn your thought into a thing.

In other words, be relentless.

There’s nothing “sinister” about it. In fact it’s your responsibility to yourself and others.

On today’s QOD, Les Brown encourages you to be relentless. To let your passion drive you forward, your relationships support you along the way, and your fears take a back seat to your mission.
