We do it to ourselves.

Because of all of our “rules.”

The thing is, we’re the only ones who know our rules. We don’t go through life handing out our rulebooks, making sure everyone stays within the lines.

We have rules for words. Which ones are good. Which ones are bad. How words should be said. Their tone. Their volume.

When our rules are broken, we mete out the punishment. We guilt and shame the violator for offending us. Stop talking to them. Leave a nasty comment. Write them an 8-paragraph email. Leave a 1-star review. Carry them with us for the rest of our lives.

But most of the time, it’s not the words themselves. Or their tone. Or their volume.

It’s how we interpreted them. It’s the meaning we gave them.

It means what we make it mean.

We do it to ourselves.

With all of our rules.

Today’s QOD episode is one of the most important things you’ll ever hear. Dr. Caroline Myss reveals the power we give to words. And how we can take that power back.
