He was operating from a scarcity mindset.

The two of us had spent the weekend attending a health coaching workshop about 30 minutes north of me.

When it was time for us to go our separate ways, I raced home, turned on my video camera, and made a YouTube video about a couple of the cool things I’d learned over the weekend.

The next morning I woke up to an angry email from my workshop pal.

It went something like this …

“We paid good money for that workshop. And now you’re gonna share what we learned FOR FREE on your YouTube channel? Take that video down!”

My response…

“Hell yeah, I am. And hell no, I’m not.”

Let’s just say that our health coaching career trajectories went in completely opposite directions.

My YouTube audience grew to tens of thousands of subscribers and prospective clients. Eventually, my coaching schedule was booked solid.

My friend? Well, things didn’t work out so well. They seldom do when you’re operating from a place of scarcity.

This is one of the biggest reasons why so many entrepreneurs can’t seem to get their businesses off the ground. Because they don’t understand the concept of “monetizing free.”

They want to keep everything they know locked up behind a pay wall.

They don’t want to give anything if no one is paying for it.

Good luck with that.

In 2020, the chances of you growing an audience who wants to buy your solutions and services without giving away lots of free samples — via YouTube videos, podcasts, blog posts, and/or social media — are pretty much zero.

You gotta give it away. Even your very best stuff.

YOU can do this, too.
