Everything contains its opposite.
As much as we tend to laud the rewards of self-discovery and increased conscious awareness, there can be a dark side.
For many, including myself, the personal development journey emerges out of a deep anxiety about life. We want to feel empowered. To be in charge of our own lives.
And that’s exactly what it does.
But what no one ever talks about is that discovering how powerful you really are — your ability to accomplish anything you want — can give rise to a different kind of anxiety. One that I deal with every single day.
Because when you truly understand that you have creative control over your life, your relationship with time will never be the same again.
You realize how much time has been misspent. And how little time there is to accomplish everything you want to accomplish.
Let me tell ya, when you know who you are and what you’re capable of, there’s no such thing as TGIF anymore. Nope.
Instead you say, “How the f*ck is it Friday already!?”
Story of my life.
The more your awareness soars, the faster the time flies. Along with the anxiety of getting it all done while you still can.
I know, there’s nothing sexy about this. But there’s power in knowing that it’s part of the deal. And that it never goes away.
Like I said, everything has its opposite.
Today on The Quote of The Day Show, our pal Mel Robbins, author of The 5 Second Rule, reveals 3 ways to turn the anxiety down. The last one is one I use every day.
Enjoy.

Hi Sean,
I’ve been following you for a few years now … 5 actually now I think about it. It has been interesting to watch you grow and change business models. One thing which I think that you should address is the lack of control. To say another way; When you can’t control what comes out of your mouth or if you feel that you deserve the right to fight back fire with fire, you have just given up your right to control your actions by not keeping them in check. It’s kind a verbal tantrum or intentional put down of something or someone else. Of course this will usually manifest itself in other areas of life as well.
I admire the general trajectory of your life & work and would love to see it continue, BUT I choose to only fill my head with things I’d happily share with my 5yr old son or 8yr old daughter. Thus if I meditate on media that contain swearing, I will start to swear. “By beholding we become changed” 2Cor 3:18
I know your a Christian and so you’ll probably resonate with a good text that gives direction in what we should invest our time in. Philippians 4:8 (It must encompass all these things)
Take care & keep growing and learning
