Way back in 1910, Wallace D. Wattles wrote this:

“To think what you want to think is to think TRUTH, regardless of appearances. Every man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work man is called upon to perform.

“There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the hardest work in the world. This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance in the visible world tends to produce a corresponding form in the mind which observes it; and this can only be prevented by holding the thought of the TRUTH.”

What does this mean?

It means that when you permit your mind to think equal to your 5-sense reality, you will continue to create more of it. You’ll assume that this is all there is for you. However, you have a special gift called your creative imagination. Which you can use to create a mental image of the life you want to live. And when you hold that mental image on the screen of your mind, while having faith that it will happen and taking sustained action on it, DESPITE your current circumstances and conditions, your invisible image will eventually become your reality.

This isn’t woo-woo; it’s neuroscience. When you think ABOVE your environment, you literally rewire your brain. By feeling the emotions of your goal accomplished, living in your mental image even before it becomes your physical reality, and doing so with repetition, you create new neural pathways and your brain is rewired to look as if the event has ALREADY happened. Your brain’s wiring matches the identity of the person who does the things you have to do in order to have the things you want to have. You become someone new. And when you become someone new, you create new results.

I’m a science guy. As much as I love personal development books, I want to know the real science behind the often-heard platitudes we hear from the self-help gurus. Over the past few years, Dr. Joe Dispenza has become one of my go-to experts on the science of transformation. Read his book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself. It’ll change your life, by showing YOU how to change YOU.
