There’s a job opening.

It’s a good job. Starting salary is solid. Paid time off and benefits included.

But the average person does this …

Cover letter, resume, click send, cross fingers.

Into the stack it goes, along with the resumes of 243 other job seekers committed to putting in the least effort possible to get the highest possible wage.

Good luck with that, homie.

Last month, a young man named Chikezie reached out to ask if I needed help with email copywriting. He included a Google Docs link that contained two separate email sequences he had written for my free ebook and an online program I teach.

The emails he had written were so good that I felt like I was reading my own writing … though a slightly better version. Well done.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any projects going on right now that require Chikezie’s fine copywriting services. But the moment I do, he’s hired.

Why?

Because he went the extra mile. He took the time and put in the effort to stand out from the “cover letter, resume, and wait” people.

Because he did something that almost no one is willing to do. Most people wait for things to happen to them instead of making things happen.

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that Chikezie will always have a job, always have clients to serve. He believes in his work. He’s committed himself to developing his skills. And he bets on himself. That’s what the people making hiring decisions are looking for.

Do you have a dream job or maybe a dream client? If so, what can you do to stand out from the crowd by giving this company or client some results in advance of hiring you? How can you use your creativity to get your resume to the top of the stack?

On today’s QOD episode, Dr. John Demartini tells the story of how a young, aspiring writer named Walt Whitman “did a Chikezie” and landed his dream job. The rest is literary history.
