A conundrum, it is.

The wise teachers talk about surrendering, letting go, being detached from the outcome.

Easier said than done.

I mean, we humans are pretty obsessed with control. We generally won’t set goals unless we know exactly how we’re going to achieve them. We need to know the outcome of every step before we take it. We need to feel absolutely certain about how things will turn out.

So when the gurus yap about surrender and detachment, it can go in one ear and out the other. Because giving up control contradicts our survivalist wiring and biology. It requires that we somehow find comfort in the unknown. To trust that the path will reveal itself, even if it doesn’t lead to where we wanted.

I think we all struggle with this part.

Then again, when we look back on our lives, we’re likely to discover that our most blissful experiences were the times when we had the least amount of control. They were the times when we were really living.

That’s something to ponder.

On today’s episode of the podcast, Dr. Wayne Dyer teaches a lesson on letting go.
