At last month’s Mastermind Sessions event, I put the following statistic up on the projector screen:

“According to many sources, more than 90% of all Internet business start-ups end in failure within the first 120 days.“

Ouch.

I know what you’re thinking. Probably not the most encouraging statistic to share with a roomful of novice web-based entrepreneurs.

But there was a method to my madness.

After reading the bad news, I asked the group what question would a successful entrepreneur ask when presented with such “depressing” information.

We went around the room for about a minute before someone finally said it …

“How do I get into the 10% of businesses that succeed?”

Boom. That’s the one.

You see, successful people focus on what’s possible, regardless of how improbable the achievement of the goal may be. While the majority may think something is impossible, we consider it to be difficult.

We make difficult normal.

Whenever you think something is impossible, the action centers in your brain shut down. But if you tell your brain that the journey toward your goal will be difficult, the action centers stay powered up moving you in the direction of achieving the improbable.

Brain science is for winners.

Successful people pursue the less likely of two options and CHOOSE to shine the spotlight of their minds on what they know and believe to be possible.

If only 1% of Internet businesses succeeded, it’s possible. Improbable, yes. Difficult, yes. But possible. That’s all my masterminders needed to know.

Or as Doctor Strange (great movie!) said, “all I need is possible.”
